#164: From Impossible to Possible with Dr. Leila Dehghan

“I really enjoy those moments when my clients discover when something they thought was impossible is actually, in fact, possible” -Dr. Leila Dehghan

Dr. Leila Dehghan experienced debilitating migraines since she was a small child. Her migraines affected her so strongly that she had to leave the field of medicine. She ended up become a personal trainer. Along the way she discovered veganism, but it wasn’t until she adopted an oil-free whole food plant-based diet that she found relief! Now she works as a nutritionist for plant-based health online in the UK.

In this episode of Veggie Doctor Radio, I interview Dr. Leila and we have an interesting conversation about her journey and her perspective now and how she is able to help her clients thrive.

We discuss:

  • How Dr. Leila discovered plant-based nutrition and how it changed her life and career

  • Her history with migraines — including food triggers

  • Her change from being a physician to being a plant-based nutritionist

  • What she enjoys helping her clients with the most

  • An impactful client story

  • Plant-based diets in athletes

  • What food has to do with racism, food injustice and health inequity

  • Her thoughts on the philosophy of veganism and being a health professional — does it lead to bias?

  • Animals first on the second

  • Her favorite food

  • What she wishes more people knew

  • The personal habit she is most proud of
