#114.5: Parenting in a Pandemic - How to Make Decisions for your Family with Dr. Kelly Fradin (pediatric series)
“It’s just one crisis headline after another. And I want parents to know that they can do this!” -Dr. Kelly Fradin
I haven’t talked much about the coronavirus in my podcast because I felt that it would be beneficial to help families focus on other things that are more under their control. However, as the fall approaches and many parents are wondering what is next for them and their children, I thought this was a timely and appropriate time to talk about this topic. In addition, one of my favorite IG pediatricians, Kelly Fradin, MD just published an eBook called Parenting in a Pandemic which will help many families navigate this complex time.
In this episode of Veggie Doctor Radio, I have a frank conversation with Dr. Fradin and how she is currently helping her families answer these difficult questions.
We discuss:
Why she wrote the book “Parenting in a Pandemic”
What message she most wants parents to hear right now
Who she worries most about in this pandemic
Her approach to overall levels of exposure
What the risk of death or severe complications is for children from CoVid-19
What MIS-C is and who is at risk
How to approach the question “should my child go back to school or daycare?”
Advice she has for parents with newborns and pregnant mothers
How to decide if children will be allowed to mingle with grandparents once their level of exposure increases
If families should have coronavirus parties
How she feels about antibody testing
What has surprised her the most about the pandemic
What has been the best thing that has come out of this for her family
What she wishes more parents knew
The personal habit she is most proud of
